The Salton Sea

D. J. Caruso's murky, funny tale of a widowed undercover cop (...) and the drugged-up lowlifes he's embroiled with is a jumble; but with such a rich seam of inspiration behind it, it hits the mark more often than it misses.

I liked it because it was so endlessly, grotesquely, inventive...

It's a sharp movie about otherwise dull subjects: crooked cops, sadistic drug dealers, femme fatales, guns and justice.

...a manic trip down Hell's midway that's so sleazy you could pick up a contact high.

...manages to create an authentically seedy, gritty and evocative atmosphere, especially making good use of the Salton Sea as a backdrop...
