What's The Big Idea?

Hugo explores things that are big, from elephants to trees, to cities and planets. He learns that big can be all kinds of things, like a big appetite, or a big surprise.

School is the place where Hugo can learn all kind of things, like counting and drawing, but it's also a place to meet friends.

Hugo finds out what friends are, and even goes to the moon to find a friend of his own.

Lily and Felix explain all the different ways to be kind, like helping someone who is hurt and taking care of your pets. When Hugo gives almost all of his balloons away to his friends, he wonders if he's been too kind.

Hugo finds out what play is, and why kids love to do it. There are so many games to play, Hugo could play his whole life.

Hugo understands it's good to be fair, so everyone can have a turn going down the slide and getting the same amount of sweets. However, when Hugo gives the same size cupcakes to his huge yeti friend and a tiny ant, the yeti is still hungry. Is that fair?

Hugo can't help but feel jealous when he is left out of a group of friends doing incredible yo-yo tricks. What is jealousy? Felix and Lily help him find out, and to be happy again.

Hugo learns that heroes are not just ones with superpowers. There are also heroes in real life, like fire-fighters, rock stars, and even his granny. Even Hugo can be a hero to someone.

Hugo learns at school, but also from his parents and friends. He discovers that sometimes you have to make lots of mistakes before you can learn something.

Hugo goes on a journey to discover that tiny flowers and huge elephants are part of nature, and so are forests and oceans and the wind. Are humans also part of nature?

Hugo explores what art is by looking at all sorts of weird and wonderful paintings, sculptures and photos. He learns that art can make you feel all kind of feelings.

Hugo thinks he's human because he's got legs, ears, eyes, nose and mouth. His pet spider and his friend the naughty monkey have all those things too! Felix and Lily help Hugo work out what makes humans different.

Felix and Lily tell Hugo about all types of work, and Hugo gets to work on a construction site.

Hugo always has something to think about, whether it is something important like remembering Mum's birthday or scoring a great goal. He wonders if there is ever a time he is not thinking.

Hugo imagines a perfect world where every kid looks, thinks and acts exactly like him. However, this gets pretty annoying fast, and Felix and Lily help Hugo learn that variety is the spice of life.

Hugo's friend the yeti is so sad that he is crying his eyes out. Hugo does not know why, but tries to cheer him up by trying lots of things, like taking him to the circus.

Hugo learns that a brain is kind of like a computer, which can store lots of different thoughts that make him feel and remember all kinds of things, good and bad. Lily and Felix help Hugo figure out how memory works.

Hugo knows some things because he can see, hear or touch them. When he wonders if his friend the elephant can fly, Hugo holds his very own experiment to find out.

What is wrong and what is right can sometimes be hard to determine. Two plus two equals four is right, but whether or not Hugo is a little boy or a big boy, is hard. Sometimes it is hard to decide on the right answer, and the right thing to do.

Everyone needs advice and Hugo does too, especially when his dad helps him get his flying dragon toy working again. When the big, furry yeti convinces him to climb a huge mountain without even their winter jackets, Hugo learns that not all advice is good.

Hugo is worried about moving to a new home. Felix and Lily help him learn that a home is a place where you feel safe and spend time with your family.

When a monkey steals Hugo's ice cream, Hugo can't help but feel all hot and bothered. Is this anger?

Hugo explores things that are beautiful, from flowers and rainbows to his cool new bike. He learns that beautiful can be all kinds of things, even Mr Yeti and Mrs Yeti.

Hugo knows some things are true, like elephants are big! However, he wants to know if llamas can skateboard and if his friend Oscar is right that a giant dinosaur still walks the earth. Hugo tries to find the truth.

Hugo learns there are good pets, like dogs and cats, and other pets that are too big, like elephants! Felix and Lily explain that pets are animals you love and take care of, but when a space robot wants to make Hugo his pet, Hugo's not so sure.

Felix and Lily show Hugo that it can be fun to share things, like a comic book, or an idea, or your time. Hugo also learns that sometimes sharing is not a good idea, like sharing his bath with a naughty monkey.

Hugo wants his friends to like him for his fancy tricks and his parents and teachers to be proud of him for his super smarts. He learns that sometimes it's also important that he be himself.

Hugo finds that rules are everywhere, telling you what to do and what not to do, rules in games and rules to keep you safe. Should Hugo always stick to the rules?

The universe is so big, some say it's infinite. Hugo ventures out into space with his trusty robot friend to find out how big infinity really is.

Hugo always has something on his mind, but what is a mind and where is it? Lily and Felix help him search for the answer.

Hugo knows lots of people who are clever, like his parents, his teacher, and his friend the scientist. Is Hugo clever too? He tries to find out by building a rocket!

Hugo always has to wait. Whether for his toast to toast, for his little sister to get ready, for the bus to come, and some things can take a long time, which means he has to be really patient!

Hugo explores all his senses, from hearing and smelling to tasting, touching and seeing. At the amusement park, he learns that sometimes your senses can fool you!

Felix and Lily explain to Hugo that music is all kind of noises that people make on purpose, most of the time on an instrument like trumpet or guitar - and if they practice a lot they can make a very good song!

There is always someone telling Hugo what to do, but most of the time it's for his own good. However, sometimes someone might tell you the wrong thing to do, like his friend the naughty monkey!

Every kid becomes a grown up, even Hugo. One day, he will have to find a job and might have his own house, maybe with his own family! Can grown-ups act like kids sometimes too?

Hugo is growing taller all the time. Growing up can be good so you can do exciting things like fly a plane! With so many things to learn and discover, Hugo wonders if people ever stop growing up.

Oscar is afraid of the naughty monkey, Hugo is afraid of the thunder, and everybody is afraid of a big spider. Together, they learn what fear is and how to fight it.

When Hugo is sleeping, he dreams a lot, about flying with dragons and racing with cheetahs. Even when he's awake, he daydreams he can bounce super high in the sky. Hugo wonders what dreams really are, and how do we know they're not real?

Hugo can't wait to grow up so he drive cars, watch scary movies, and do whatever he wants! Soon he learns that grown-ups don't always have the freedom to play like kids do.

Hugo has a contest of strength with an elephant and an tiny ant, and learns that even an ant is strong for its size. Hugo also learns that he can have a strong mind.

Hugo has a great imagination, which helps him conjure up lots of fun and wild games. Felix and Lily show him that he can use his imagination to figure out tough problems and even help people too.

Hugo finds it scary when he sees some big robots fighting, and upsetting when he argues with his friend. He learns that sometimes people have to fight to defend others from danger. Bravely, Hugo defends a princess from a marauding dragon.

Some choices are easy, like which game to play, and who to play with. Hugo finds that choosing some things is hard, and sometimes he has no choice at all!

Hugo has a big family: he has two sisters, a dad, a mum, a granny, uncles, cousins and so many more people - and all these people have a dad, mum and cousins too... what a big family! Maybe someday, Hugo will make his own family too.

Hugo's friend the yeti loves his teddy and elephant loves his rollerskates. Hugo learns about love by looking at all the things and people around him, and how they make him feel.

Hugo thinks he needs a monkey to play with, badly but he doesn't think he needs stuff like books or sleep. Felix and Lily help Hugo understand the things Hugo needs and the things he wants.

Some things are easy to agree on, like snow is cold and the sun is hot. Hugo finds it harder to agree on other things, like when he wants to play basketball but his friends want to play dolls! They learn to compromise, and go on a fun bumper car ride all together!

Hugo definitely likes some things over others, like Granny's homemade soup, good music, and the colour orange. Hugo wonders if the world would be even better if it was only made up of things he likes, and if everything was orange!

Lots of things change when they grow up. An egg becomes a bird, a caterpillar becomes a butterfly and a kid becomes a grown up. Hugo likes some things just the way they are!

Hugo wonders how many birthdays it is until you get old. Do you need to have a long white beard to be old, or is being old just a feeling in your head? Young Hugo meets old man Hugo and together they go on an adventure to figure it all out.

Sometimes in life you have to be brave: like when Hugo goes to the doctor, and especially when he fights a dragon!
