Erich Segal's bestseller given the Big Time Treatment was a smash hit, very much of its time, and responsible for the grisly tenet Love means never having to say you're sorry.
...the film of Love Story is infinitely better than the book. I think it has something to do with the quiet taste of Arthur Hiller, its director, who has put in all the things that Segal thought he was being clever to leave out.
...actually better than Segal's previously released best-seller (written from his screenplay in order to promote thefilm). But then that's not saying much.
